Raise your hands if you still get adult pimples, because I sure do! Curing adult pimples is very challenging because it could be caused by a lot of things. Allergies, the food you eat, hormones and even bad habits like frequent touching of the face. For the past few years, I try to find products that will allow me to control (not really cure) my pimples - because I realize and have come to accept that they will never leave me. I came across with Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder in Sephora Ph. 


Before I bought it online, I did a couple of research and read a ton of reviews and finally decided to give it a try. Mario Badescu is actually a well-respected brand. Being around for more than 50 years, this American grown acne product actually started by giving European-style facials in a two-room Manhattan apartment.  Fifty years later, Mario Badescu has been providing quality skin solutions from acne down to anti-skin aging.


Know your skin type

Before trying any adult pimple curing product, make sure you know your skin type. I do have a combination skin where I have a very oily T-Zone (i.e. forehead and nose) and dry cheeks and chin. I do notice as well that a lot of food causes my breakout. For example, I realized that eating too much rice, dairy, and even ice cream causes me to flare up! So, girls, my suggestion is to observe and keep a journal (if you can) of your breakouts and try to single out its triggers.

So, I did mention that I bought this in Sephora Ph. Its been actually quite a while since I bought the product. I bought it August 2017 for Php 1,041.00 and I have been using it since then. 

Product Packaging

I normally don't start my review with the trivial stuff, but with Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder, I think this is worthy of mentioning. 




The product is mainly loose powder that is packaged like a compact foundation. Because of this, when you use the product through time, its hard to not get the powder all over the place. This is a major turn-off for me because first, the product is really expensive and I wanted it to last long not fall off right on my shirt or sprinkle on the floor. Second, it's hard to bring it every day and keep the powder secured because the product gets to sneak out of the little holes from its cover. 

A beauty hack that I learned is to place the product in a makeup purse that will allow it to stand upright at all times. It has to be a good fit so even if you swing your bag or got pushed to death in the MRT, the container will not budge. 

Is it effective?

Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder is not meant to be an acne or adult pimple cure - that is what I realized after months of using it. However, it is very good for controlling acne and having breakouts.  


The product is made of Sulfur, Zinc Oxide and other minerals. It will control the shine on your face and will not conflict with any acne cure products you might be using - believe me, I tried it with a lot of other stuff. I find the powder quite strong, probably because I do have sensitive skin, so if its the first time that you are trying the powder, damp a small amount on your face first. 

Also, it is best that put a little bit of moisturizer first before applying the powder. A beauty hack that I have proven to be true, is constant face moisturizing. If you keep on using acne care products without balancing it out with moisturizers it will do more harm than good. The same thing with Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder, make sure to put any of your favorite face lotion or cream and it will just set right in.

I observed that upon regular use of the powder, my acne breakouts and small pimples most especially on my forehead have diminished. I do combine Mario Badescu powder to my other skin care regimen, which I will probably share in the next future posts and I found it to be extremely helpful in keeping my face blemish free.

Can I use it with makeup?


You can definitely use the powder over makeup. If you notice, the product is actually yellowish, so when you put it on your skin it will just blend right it. I noticed you can also put a powder foundation over it and it will help your skin control pimples most especially if you get this sort of reaction from makeup too.



My Verdict

I would say that the product is worthy of its price. I haven't really used an acne control powder before, so I find this to be the holy grail of powders because it does help me prevent breakouts.  Also, the product goes a long way. I have been using the powder since last year and I still haven't consumed half from the container. 


 Again girls, just remember that acne or pimple control products are just half of our battles. It is best for you to know your acne triggers and try to find natural remedies to control it. For instance, I find that hormones most especially before my period usually breaks me out. But, if I regularly exercise and drink lots of water, somehow it diminishes or I have nothing at all.  Again these are all hacks, try to experiment on your own, and you'll be surprised of what you may find out!
